USGBC The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is a nonprofit organization composed of leaders working to advance buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable and healthy places to live and work. Driving its mission to transform the built environment is USGBC's LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System.
 
FSC The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1993 in Toronto, Canada. In the founding assembly 130 representative from 25 countries from a wide range of stakeholders (wood industry, foresters, social and indigenous groups, and international environmental organizations) participated. FSC is an NGO set up by its own members. FSC's stated mission is to support environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forest. It promotes voluntary, independent, third party certification. Certification in all countries is based on 10 general and universal Principles and Criteria of Forest Stewardship including social, environmental and economic elements which must be covered by the forest managers and evaluated by the certifiers. Green Cabinetworks is a proud participant in the chain of custody of FSC and provides FSC certified products on a custom made-to-order basis.
 
AWI The Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI), a not-for-profit trade association of architectural woodwork manufacturers, industry suppliers, and design professionals and is dedicated to the goals of:
  • Improving architectural woodwork standards.
  • Providing technical education for members and the design community.
  • Researching innovative materials and methods of engineering, fabrication, finishing, and installation.
 
Wood Is Green Wood is Green is a grassroots campaign that promotes an awareness of wood as a natural, renewable, sustainable, and environmentally-preferred building resource.

- Sustainable Palm Oil -

General Mills is the latest company to announce it will switch to palm oil supplied through sustainable and responsible sources. According to a report from Greenbiz, the company hopes to meet this goal by 2015 and purchase palm oil that does not threaten the rainforest or its biodiversity. Other companies, including Unilever, Nestle and Burger King have changed their palm oil suppliers in recent years, while Cadbury eliminated it from its dairy milk chocolate bars. Cleaning product company Seventh Generation offers certification credits to its suppliers using responsible and sustainable practices to support their programs.

- Largest Wind Farm -

A Britain offshore wind farm is now the world’s largest and can potentially power 200,000 homes, according to Yahoo! Green. The farm has 100 turbines, with plans to install a total of 314 and was built off the south east coast by Swedish energy company Vattenfall. The farm is part of an effort to increase Britain’s renewable energy and reduce carbon emissions.
