Conditioned Wood Storage
All of our hardwood lumber and composite wood panel inventories are properly stored in our conditioned storage area. A cold steam humidification system ensures that the wood is in perfect condition for the milling and joinery processes.
Assembly
Much of our specialty millwork is assembled in this area. Custom wine storage and display components are among the most popular items produced in this part of the shop.
Finish Room
Our state-of-the-art finish facility is one of only a handful of shops in North America applying water based, low VOC stains and top coats for production woodwork. Our expert finishers can match or create finishes for customer approval, and then replicate that flawlessly across the entire project.
Door Joinery
We manufacture a wide variety of high quality, solid wood and engineered-core doors in all manner of materials and finishes for both interior and exterior applications. Custom-radius doors and etched glass are our specialty.
Solid Wood Milling & Molding
Craftsmanship in wood all starts with the selection and milling of the material. We source the highest quality, responsibly-harvested hardwoods and plane and joint them using time-tested techniques. This ensures that the woodwork we produce will last the test of time.
Wood Recycling
100% of our wood waste is recycled and put to an environmentally responsible and carbon neutral use. All of our sawdust and wood chips are sent to a local topsoil compost facility. Our hardwood scraps are burned to produce heat for a large portion of our facility, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels by 30%.

Cabinet Joinery
Traditional woodworking techniques such as mortise and tenon and dovetail joinery still rule the roost in this department. Our finest work, including heirloom-quality furnishings are created by our team of seasoned cabinetmakers in this area.
Electronics
Unlike many woodworking facilities, Vigilant has its own electronics department that specifies and installs cabinet display lighting, and our cigar and wine climate-control systems.

CNC Machine Center
CNC machining is at the heart of any modern woodshop. Our Onsrud flat panel CNC router features a 12-position tool changer and a dual axis drill bank. Cut lists are electronically delivered to the machine from the Engineering Department, ensuring accuracy and tolerances well beyond human capabilities.
Lean Parts Kanban
Kanban is a Japanese word meaning visual card. Our Kanban allows us to organize our common parts for production so that we always have the items we need for an order.
Curved Material
Producing curved moldings and cabinetry requires precision and craftsmanship. Our experienced team of woodworkers loves working on curved projects and is always up to the challenge.
Packing Shipping
An often overlooked, but vital part of any woodshop, the shipping department reviews the job cut list, ensuring that every part for each job is properly fabricated and accounted for. Every job ships with comprehensive shop drawings and a detailed manifest of all parts and assemblies for the installation team.
Administration
The backbone of our operation, our administrators ensure that our customers are well taken care of and the important, less-glamorous elements of running an efficient business are completed.
Design Department
The experienced designers in the department are the core of our design-build capabilities. They work with our clients and project managers to create designs and drawings for review and eventual client approval. High-powered computers and a multiple design software packages allow us to produce everything from simple shop drawings to 3-D color renderings.
Engineering
The Engineering Department links the Design Department with the high tech aspects of the CNC Machining Center and other computer aided manufacturing equipment on the shop floor. Every component for your project is drawn, designed and checked before it is ever sent to be fabricated on the shop floor.
Dust Collector
Effective dust collection is critical for providing a safe working environment for our employees. It is also critical for producing quality wood products. Our high-capacity dust filtration system efficiently removes the sawdust at each workstation and deposits it into an exterior container for transport to our soil composter in Maine.
Biomass Furnace
Our clean-burning biomass furnace burns our small hardwood scrap material during the winter months, providing over 220,000 BTUs of heat to our facility and reducing our fossil fuel consumption by over 35%.
